I earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Marital and Family Therapy and completed an AATA (American Art Therapy Association)-approved graduate program in Art Therapy at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California in December 2003. I completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1996 with continued study in psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As part of my graduate education, I participated in a yearlong supervised practicum internship from January to December of 2003.
I began practicing as a licensed postgraduate intern in 2004, became licensed to practice independently in 2009 and have continually held an unrestricted license since that time. My initial license was as a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (MFC46908) by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
In October 2013, I earned my National Counselor Certification (NCC 386056), through verification of my education and experience and by passing the National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification, administered by the National Board for Certified Counselors.
In May 2014, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor (10913) in North Carolina, credentialed by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors. This license underwent a name change in January 2020 to Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor.
To keep current in the field and to satisfy licensing requirements, I participate in ongoing advanced training and education. In 2020, I completed a certificate program in Trauma and Body-Based Approach and in 2023 became a certified provider of the Safe and Sound Protocol.
